Thank you,
Leticia
You taught me what a friend really is.
When Kärt told me that a 3rd volunteer from Armenia was coming, I didn't think much of it at all. When you asked me for my number on your first day, I still had no idea what would become of that interaction.
Then, when we started working together on that beautiful christmas concert, I realized how much conversations with you give me.
What is friendship?
Don't get me wrong, I love and truly appreciate my friends back home, I've known them for most of my life and that is not going to change any time soon.
However, I remember the first time I was sick here in Estonia, which was the day of the first Kärberi party. The next day, you asked me how I was feeling, which is a very simple and natural question but I realized in that moment that none of my friends had ever asked me this question before. (Also, looking back at our old chats for this made me realize how formal I used to text back then haha)
This, and your 'pickiness' with who you call a "friend" has also made me realize the value of this word and made me be more careful with it.
So many memories.
We made so many to me incredibly valuable memories together in these 9 months which I want to recap a little bit on this page.
After the concert and returning from christmas, we went on our little hike. There, we spontaneously decided to book a little train trip to Rovaniemi.
Roughly 3 weeks later we went ice bathing, one day later we spontaneously decide to stay in Tartu for the rest of the day. That day made me realize how much fun I can have with you.
It comes and goes.
But so far it only came.
the ultimate routine breakers
Whilst afternoon activities became harder after your job troubles, we still managed to break the routine in the best ways, which sort of became our motto.
In Rovaniemi, we managed to survive on our budget and did everything in our power, including a 3 am drive, to see the northern lights, with which we succeded of course :)
After some "interesting" interactions and an incredibly exhausting (but, thanks to my superb knowledge of 2-player card games also fun) train ride, we returned with some great new memories and blue hair and it was only two weeks until the next trip, in which we also enjoyed a delicious barbecue at Sandra's summer house.
Eurotrip 1
Then, finally, came our big trip (and as you can see I called it "Eurotrip 1", because there are definitely more to come).
As you know, this was not my first trip. Yet, it is still up there with the best one's I've had.
First up was Venice. And even though I couldn't really enjoy the Italian food (which is a real bummer), I had a great time there with you. Just walking around aimlessly was the perfect way to explore, often far from the 'a lot' tourists and completely at our own pace. Casually ordering a phone while waiting for a pizza in a fancy-ish restaurant in Venice is certainly something I had never done before.
After Venice, even though we missed our first train to Verona, the fun didn't end. The quick visit was absolutely worth it and just talking for the following 6 hour train ride while thoroughly enjoying the scenery was perfect.
Having enjoyed a delicious Pretzel and Schnitzelbrötchen, we finally move on to dear Leipzig (but not without my amazing april fools joke which I am still incredibly proud of). Getting to show you my home felt really special, especially because it felt so "unexpected?" I am really glad that you felt comfortable there as well!
Eurotrip 1 - part 2
As the relentless travelers we are, we did not allow for time to rest, which at this point you could very much feel in your legs (I still think you should go see a doctor about this).
So, after eating breakfast, excitedly unpacking your new phone and having a quick look at Schkortitzs only tourist attraction, the so called Paltrockwindmühle, we went off to Prague. The drive was filled with good music, good mood, a new phone AND, maybe most importantly, salt & vinegar chips and Ayran!
After arriving, we tried to go to the old town (sorry about that) and eventually succeeded. After you successfully had your april fools revenge on me, we wanted to go eat and also eventually succeeded with that which, seemingly to your surprise, was delicious (and to my surprise too since there were mushrooms on it (I'm growing up)).
Then we ticked off some must-see spots, had some of your delicious gum while spotting a pooped car and went to the metronome after laying down in the park watching a squirrel.
Inevitably, your work duty called and we decided to go eat dinner (not without a conversation that I still think about today), enjoying some czech fried cheese and you some beer.
The drive back was a bit more calm but still filled with good music and an as good as possible mood.
Of course, that was not it for the day as we then did a quick excursion to Mutzschen, a little town stuck in the GDR (and where I used to work) where you, surprisingly but also understandably, felt deeply unwell (surprisingly because you immediately felt it one second after entering).
That was still not it because you then got to show off your amazing manual driving skills (next time you'll drive for longer, I promise :)).
That was STILL not all as we then went to Bahren to have a look at the Mulde river in the middle of the night, until your urge to pee got too strong :)
Eurotrip 1 - part 3
At this point, any sane person would say "We've had an intense few days, let's take this day a bit slower" but nuh-uh.
First, you actually followed up on your words and fully went into the beautiful Tongrube lake, while I only dipped in with my feet.
Then, a quick ride on my barely safe to drive Simson before setting off to the Monument to the Battle of the Nations including the cemetery and heading to my grandparent's place.
This is another thing that feels incredibly random to me (you meeting my grandparents), and I definitely wouldn't let everyone so deep into my personal comfort zone. I think we managed to keep it short while also having a pretty good and not so awkward time :)
A quick photosession at the Cospudener See lake later, we followed my brother to his band practice (in a very "interesting" part of Leipzig) and listened to some also very interesting music.
Then came one of the main attractions of the trip: a REAL Döner. And it was DELICIOUS (sorry for making you pick spicy sauce tho)!
After a very brief sightseeing in Leipzig (there is SO MUCH MORE to see), we successfully hid from Simon and his girlfriend, no, sorry, Lilly (sexism etc.) (that was pretty tight).
The surprise went great (I didn't really expect a different reaction to be honest), we tried our best to eat some pizza purely out of politeness and I think we had a great time with my friends, afterwards heading to the shisha bar where I perfectly showed off my shisha smoking skills.
After worrying your sister with our angel-like voices and Fabian making us take a little sightseeing tour in the car through Leipzig, we said goodbye to everyone, dropped them off at their places and finally, after a very full, long and eventful day went to sleep.
Eurotrip 1 - part 4
I knew that the next morning was going to be hard because YOU fell ASLEEP in the CAR. And it was.
But we made it to the beautiful Leipzig Hbf station anyway and easily caught our train to Berlin.
Having arrived there, we did some sightseeing and walked around a lot, realizing how underwhelming Berlin actually is and eventually, after a disappointing Döner and very disappointing Currywurst decided to head to our "accomodation".
After settling in, I went out again and unsuccessfully searched far and wide for Paulaner Cola, finally settling on fritz kola instead, which of course turned out to be a great success.
Before going to sleep we decide to go and find something to eat and happen to walk by a lebanese place and, to be honest, this is what I remember most about the Berlin part of our trip.
We eat incredibly delicious food and drink very delicious drink (at the time of writing I'm still waiting for that Knefe btw) and I'm sure this won't be my last time eating lebanese food in Germany. Leipzig lebanese places, here I come.
After an interesting encounter because of a missing ring we head back inside and go to sleep.
The next and unfortunately last day is spent quickly getting together all the required souvenirs, a bit of strolling and another good (but not Leipzig good) Döner.
Eventually we head to the airport, go straight to the correct terminal thanks to my amazing sense of direction, get on the plane and head back home, to Tallinn.
Seriously, this trip was so fun and very unique and I am really glad you said yes. It is sometimes still unbelievable to me how much happened in this one week and I think back to it often.
Back to the routine?
Then, shortly after coming back to Tallinn, the news we had been waiting for: YOU GOT THE JOB!!!
While the excitement has now of course gone down a bit, it is still very exciting that you get to stay here in Estonia. Of course this was clear for me from the moment we prepared your application on the train to Rovaniemi :)
After you started at IZUM, our time spent together became less, understandably so of course. But we still work together so no easy escape from me :).
Time truly flew.
The now
That gets us to today.
We're leaving soon and the future for the both of us is still uncertain (at least at the time of writing this).
Will we live in the same city? In the same continent? Are we going to see each other again?
Who knows.
But I know that I am incredibly thankful to have met you and to have become friends with you. You give me so much fun, knowledge, awareness and so much more.
UPDATE: I'm not staying. You are. That's okay. As you like to say "It wasn't supposed to happen" (or something like that). We'll still see each other soon.
Me in Yerevan
Get ready to get splashed!!!
Thank you for saying yes to so many things and thank your mom for saying no sometimes.
